The Inaugural Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon is Less than Two Weeks Away
Registration is in Full Stride for the Half Marathon to be Held Over Veterans Day Weekend in Norfolk, VA to Benefit Veterans and Their Family Members

NORFOLK, VA, October 29, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This Veterans Day Weekend will include a first for Freedom Marathon, Inc. (FMI) - the Inaugural Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon. The event will be a half-marathon this year, followed by a full marathon each of the next four years as part of a five-year partnership with the City of Norfolk, VA. The Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon will be held Nov. 11-13, 2011.

FMI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and support the needs of Veterans and their families through running events. This will be a fun-filled weekend for runners and their families with activities occurring throughout the weekend.

As a devoted runner himself, Executive Director Manny Cordero has been interested in organizing and hosting a large-scale event to benefit the men and women who have selflessly served the nation. This year he is making that dream a reality. Proceeds from the Half Marathon event will benefit a cause he is very passionate about-veterans and their families.

"The Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon is the beginning of a long-term vision that includes providing families information about healthy lifestyle choices while recognizing the work veterans have done for our nation," said FMI Founder/CEO Manny Cordero.

The inaugural race includes a seminar by Olympian Anne Audain, a performance by the award-winning United States Naval Academy Silent Drill Team as well as a Cup Challenge and a Wounded Warrior and Family Fun Run 5k. Running heavyweights Jeff Galloway and Bart Yasso have pledged their involvement to help make this event a success.
